Cardrona Village

Cardrona Family Fun Day

The annual Family Fun Day was held on Saturday 22nd August 2009 when we were blessed by good weather, which encouraged most of the youth from the village to join in the many games and events.  There are some budding stars of the future with good skills in golf, biking, football and running.  Lots of parents and other adults joined in and showed off their skills with some great shots on goal and some excellent pitching and putting.  The tug-of-war always produces some competitive teams with very interesting names.  The trophy was again won by an all ladies team, well done.

It was a pleasure to present so many medals to the winners within each age category.  Well done all of you.

The Toddlers group worked all afternoon on face painting.  The Brownies and Scouts provided a book stall, run by Cheryl Turpie and Barry Hughes plus a chocolate fountain.

One of the highlights was the dunk tank with long queues of young people waiting their turn.  The Sumo suits were a new event and proved very popular.

We were able to communicate through the PA system lent to us by the Innerleithen Pipe Band.

While the main purpose of the day was to have Family Fun we also managed to make over £500 for the Village Hall fund.  So many thanks to everyone who contributed so generously.

Of course, an event like this doesn't happen without a lot of planning and help on the day.  I would like to thank the planning and preparation team of Annie Tredgett, Marie Gilmour, Dominic Finn, Cerys Cummings, Rod Mitchell, Brian McCrow.  The excellent BBQ was set up by Dominic Finn and the bar by Ken from the Village Shop.  Annie Tredgett worked tirelessly providing teas and cakes throughout the afternoon.  I'd like to thank the many others who also helped out on the day.

Cardrona Golf Club laid out the pitch and putt.

I also want to thank the following organisations who provided the event and raffle prizes - Cardrona Golf Club, The CourtHouse, The Tontine, Coop, Icycles of Innerleithen and many more.  It is uplifting to have so many organisations wanting to help our Village.

Regards
