Cardrona Village

Cardrona Sunflower Valley Project

Giant sunflower competition

Can you grow the tallest sunflower in Cardrona?!

Every household in Cardrona should now have received 6 seeds of a giant variety of Sunflower. The seeds may be sown anytime from now. The advice from Thompson & Morgan for growing tall plants is to sow the seeds under glass during April and then plant seedlings out once the chances of frost are over. The seeds may also be planted out directly, where they are to flower, during late April or May.

A measuring stick will be available from the Hall during August/early September. All entrants will be asked to submit a photograph of their sunflower measured against the stick, and a note of the height. More details will be provided nearer the time. The winner will be announced in September.

The grower of the tallest wins £50!

Funding for the competition has come mainly from a grant from O2: it’s your community. Over the growing season the Village Hall Committee hope to run a few sunflower-related events (see below) and we would be delighted to receive any stories or pictures of progress! If you would like to submit any, please bring them along to any of the eventsor send them to: sunflowers@cardrona-village.co.uk

There are still quite a few seeds left - if anyone would like any more, just send a note of your address to: sunflowers@cardrona-village.co.uk

Plant Sale

There may be a Saturday morning free in June (7th), during which we could run a coffee morning and plant sale. If you have any spare plants, or enough space to grow some for a plant sale, or if you would like to help, please let Annie know (sunflowers@cardrona-village.co.uk or through the online hall booking form).
